Hi, I’m Alan!
Laundry Lens started during the pandemic as a little experiment. It was my first independent app, and I built everything myself, from training the machine learning model to designing every screen and icon.
The idea was simple: everyone should be able to understand how to care for their clothes.
Laundry symbols can be confusing, and for people who are blind or have low vision, they can be completely inaccessible. I wanted to make something that could help, so I built an app that recognizes those tiny symbols and explains what they mean, with accessibility at its heart.
What started as a personal project eventually reached thousands of people around the world and was even featured on the UK App Store. I never imagined that something I built on my own would find its way into so many people’s pockets.
Over the years, Laundry Lens has grown beyond its original purpose. It’s no longer just about understanding labels, but also about helping you organize your clothes and take better care of them.
And through all these changes, one thing has stayed the same: it’s still just me behind the app. Designing, coding, experimenting, and occasionally breaking things along the way.
I believe technology should make everyday life a little easier, and that good design should be accessible to everyone. That’s what keeps me working on Laundry Lens.
If this little app has made your life even a bit easier, that means a lot to me.
Thanks for being part of its story.
